This fall athletics season has been an exciting one for Hemet Unified School District, especially with the launch of Girls’ Flag Football at Hemet, Tahquitz, and West Valley High Schools this school year.
Girls’ Flag Football is a relatively new sport at the high school level across the nation. California is one of 17 states with Girls’ Flag Football officially sanctioned as part of athletics for statewide school systems. The California Interscholastic Federation’s (CIF) Federated Council approved the addition of Girls’ Flag Football in February of 2023, paving the way for the sport’s official introduction across the state during the 2023-2024 school year.
The launch of Girls’ Flag Football at Hemet, Tahquitz, and West Valley High Schools has opened a new chapter in Hemet Unified’s commitment to expanding athletic opportunities for all students. Each team brought pride and determination to the field, setting the stage for an unforgettable inaugural season. Hemet High School’s team proudly finished their regular season with an impressive record of 7-1 (League Champions), which led them to their first CIF playoff game in their first season as a team.
Student athletes gave an outstanding debut performance for the 2025 fall season, demonstrating drive, talent, and teamwork on and off the field. Their accomplishments would not have been possible without the support of coaches and athletic directors, whose leadership and preparation ensured each team had the tools and confidence to compete successfully. This incredible start marks just the beginning of what promises to be a thriving future for Girls’ Flag Football in Hemet Unified.
