Art 1 is an introductory class that explores the techniques of drawing and painting. Students learn the elements and principles of good design as basis for the creation of their class projects. Students sample from a variety of materials (media) including pencil, charcoal, tempera and watercolor paint, and scratch board.

Art 2 is an intermediate class that builds upon the concepts and techniques learned in Art 1. Students explore new materials (media) that include ink and acrylic paint, while learning about styles of art such as impressionism.

Students will have the opportunity to develop their own style of artwork in Art 3 and Art 4 based on

their experiences and knowledge gained from Art1 and 2. The development of a portfolio of work is emphasized as students continue to explore increasingly challenging visual problems.

For the serious art student intending to pursue art at the post-secondary level, Studio Art concentrates on the development of a strong portfolio of artwork. Students explore areas of interest and work in many media to demonstrate a well-rounded ability.

For the serious art student intending to pursue art at the post-secondary level, AP Studio Art also involves the creation, organization and submission of a complete portfolio. Students complete a minimum of 29 works for the portfolio submitted in the spring to the College Board for consideration.

CERAMICS 1 #58000

This course is designed to provide a sound foundation in clay work. The course involves all techniques of ceramics: coil, wheel, slab, and combined forms. All areas of ceramics from wedging of clay to glazing of projects will be covered. Students will be required to pass tests on vocabulary and textbook information. Individual expression will be stressed. Students may enter the class at semester as space allows.

This intermediate level class is designed to build on the skills and concepts learned in Ceramics 1. There will be an emphasis on wheelwork, design and function of the kiln, and glaze experimentation. Students will be tested on vocabulary and textbook information. Ceramics 2 class maybe repeated for credit.

This advanced class emphasizes the design of kilns, glaze formulation, and advanced wheel techniques. After completing various textbook assignments, students will have the opportunity to design a kiln and compute proper glaze formulas. This class may be repeated for credit.

This course is designed to be a lab class, which explores the technical and aesthetic involved in creating and appreciating digital photography. Fundamental photography techniques will be taught and infused with a variety of software applications and new technology as it becomes available. The course will also include aesthetic appreciation and cultural awareness of various art works. State standards of design will be taught and applied to art and critiques. Students will learn and understand the steps to create and finish artistic and graphic photography projects. These skills will be connected to career and future educational goals.
