PLUS Summit

Hemet Unified School District (HUSD) is committed to providing a learning environment in which students feel like their voices are being heard, they feel supported, and are given the opportunity to be leaders on their campus. All middle and high school campuses within the district have a Peer Leaders Uniting Students (PLUS) program to give students the opportunity to enhance their school climate. At Hemet Unified, we believe that in order for our schools to be successful, we need to listen to the needs of our students and they need to be a part of the process to ensure we are establishing a safe learning environment. In order to receive valuable input from PLUS leaders and provide them with the necessary tools to bring back to their campus, HUSD created the first annual PLUS Summit.

Nearly 250 PLUS leaders and staff members from all of our middle and high schools attended the first annual PLUS Summit at Mt. San Jacinto College in the beginning of January. The inaugural theme of this year’s event was to Make A Difference Everyday (MADE). Students were able to attend sessions that were created based on the information staff received from the PLUS leaders earlier in the school year. A total of 14 sessions were available for students to attend, from healthy coping skills to student empowerment; students were able to learn from district and community-based experts on issues related to school climate concerns.

This amazing and informative event gave students the opportunity to make a positive impact on their campus. Students were able to take this knowledge and create activities and initiatives to support all students on campus and help foster a positive and safe learning environment for their fellow students.

Thank you to HUSD’s Student Services, Transportation, and Nutrition Services for your support and creation of the event, and to Mt. San Jacinto College for hosting the event! A big thank you to all of the students and advisors that were in attendance; thank you for your commitment to making a positive impact on your campus and for Making A Difference Everyday!
