Thanksgiving Day is a day of giving thanks, and spending time with your friends and family. Different people spend Thanksgiving different ways; some may have a big dinner or watch the big football kickoff. Thanksgiving is a time of being grateful, and being thankful for the life you were given.
Thanksgiving takes place on the fourth Thursday of every November. The holiday dates back to the 1600’s when the first “thanksgiving” dinner was held in current day Plymouth, Massachusetts. Thanksgiving was held for many days, later known as the First Thanksgiving in 1621 and 1623. George Washington later claimed the first national thanksgiving in America on November 26, 1789, and its been celebrated ever since.
As I went around campus I asked a couple what they did for Thanksgiving and how they celebrated it. Halie Burke said, “I usually sleep in until about 12, and then start cooking.” Many people like to sleep in, then spend the day with there family. Brett Vaughn also said, “I go to my Grandmothers house and help cook, and also sit back and watch TV with my family.”
With Thanksgiving being on November 28th, 2013, we should all enjoy it whether you spend the day cooking turkey, or sitting back and watching the big football game; you should still be thankful for the life we were all given. Don’t take anything for granted, and try to live your life to the complete fullest, because tomorrow is not promised.
