Following our theme of athletes, is softball player Jennie Lynn Finch-Daigle. Chosen/dedicated to Hemet High School’s Varsity baseball player Tim Olvaney.
Finch, a 33-year-old mother of three, is a former American softball player who pitched for the USA National Softball Team and the Chicago Bandits. She was born on September 3, 1980, in La Mirada, CA. Over the years she has earned a gold medal at the 2004 Summer Olympics and silver medal at the 2008 Summer Olympics, giving Time Magazine the honor of describing her as the most famous softball player in history. Some could argue that it was easy for her to receive her title, seeing as she is beautiful, but her skills and talent speaks for itself; her beauty is just a plus. In 2010, Finch retired from softball to focus on her growing family. In August of 2011, she started work as a color analyst for ESPN doing National Pro Fastpitch and college softball games. You can take the girl out of softball, but you can’t take the softball out of the girl.
Finch started her softball career at the early age of five. She began pitching at age eight with her father as her fastpitch coach. Finch was also very diverse when it came to sports in high school. Softball, Volleyball, and Basketball were all sports that she not only played in high school, but also excelled greatly in! Finch lettered four times in softball and two times twice in volleyball and basketball. During senior year of high school, she was captain of all three sports.
Finch attended college at the University of Arizona from 1999 to 2002. In her short four years there, she accomplished a lot! She set the new record with 60 consecutive wins in the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA). In the Women’s College World Series, she won Most Outstanding Player. Finch had a career total of 119 wins in her four years at ASU. In that time span, she struck out a total of 1,028 batters!
Jennie Finch could be labeled as a cliché “Cleat Chaser” after marrying then Major League Baseball pitcher Casey Daigle on January 15, 2005. The two now have three kids, Ace Shane, born on May 4, 2006, Diesel Dean, born on June 19, 2011, and daughter Paisley Faye, born on January 12, 2013.
Jennie Finch is a very accomplished woman. She has inspired many softball players around the world and hasn’t stopped yet. Although her retirement was bitter sweet, her fan club now gets to witness a beautiful family grow.
