They Are Among Us

Remember back to your freshman year. Are you visualizing it? Think back to freshman orientation and that first day of school. Remember those people who wore the same blue shirts and helped you to any classes that might have confused you? Link crew, or the people in the bright blue shirts, have been helping freshmen and even other underclassmen, find their way around this huge school. They have helped the freshmen that enter onto campus feel as if they were being accepted into this world while also aiding their transition in high school. This year has been no exception. The Link Crew members have helped the incoming freshmen find their niche in this school.

At freshmen orientation, the incoming freshmen spent time getting to know each other t a little better. Link Crew leaders took them out of their social groups and away from their friends in order to make them meet new people and get to know one another. They played games, took a tour, ate some pizza, and created friendships with other students who are going to be with them for the next four years. The games made the students work as a team in their groups with their Link Crew leaders. The Link Crew leaders didn’t just go to Freshmen Orientation and forget about their freshmen, they helped them on the first day of school find those confusing classrooms.

On the 21st, the Back to School Dance took place where the freshmen first spent time with each other and all the Link Crew leaders. Dancing, talking and making memories all took place that night. The music ranged from Cyndi Lauper’s “Girls Just Want to Have Fun,” to Blake Shelton’s “Footloose,” even Macklemore and Ryan Lewis’ “Thrift Shop.” The class of 2017 had a blast dancing with their Link Crew leaders. I am glad to report that there was no inappropriate dancing at the dance by anyone who attended the dance. Everyone had a great time and I was amazed by the turnout.

For all those sophomores and juniors this year, if you would like to help your fellow incoming freshmen adjust to the high school lifestyle, join Link Crew next year. It creates great memories and you will have a great time doing it.
