Long summer days seem infinite as the months of June and July slowly creep along. The bliss of no responsibilities, no places to be, and no homework to be done doesn’t take long to settle in; unfortunately, it seems like once it really settles in, school is already back in session. The first few weeks of school bring the somewhat dreary thought of returning to schedules, waking up early, and tests. We all know that school isn’t the most preferred place to be, but it doesn’t have to be completely terrible. With these tips and guidelines, your school year is sure to be first-rate:
1) Walk. Left, right, left, right. It gets you places and out of everyone’s way.
2) Don’t procrastinate. Don’t do it.
3) Don’t blow off school. School IS important. You don’t have to be a nerd who holes themselves in their bedroom Friday night or reads gigantic books in the corner to be someone who takes school seriously. Although if you are, that’s totally your prerogative.
4) Be social. Yeah, school is important, but balance is key. High school isn’t just about classes and homework, it’s also about having fun and enjoying your time here.
5) Don’t stop in the middle of the hallway. It creates major traffic backup, flat-tired shoes, and annoyed classmates.
6) Get involved! You aren’t “too cool for school”. You don’t have to wear spirit colors everyday or be a cheerleader to do this. Don’t be that person who sits back and ruins a good time just because you think school spirit is “lame”. All you need to do is stay on top of things; it makes it a lot more fun for everyone.
7) Don’t make out in front of other people’s lockers, or anywhere. Please.
8) Don’t care what other people think. This doesn’t mean you should go to school wearing pantyhose on your head, or whatever. You should just make sure you have your own identity. Don’t worry too much about what other people think about you. Be original, and don’t be afraid to be yourself. It’s cliché but essential.
9) Realize that it’s only high school. Half of the things you’re worrying about now, you won’t be worrying about in ten years. No matter what you choose to do with your life, high school is not likely to be the highlight of it.
10) Remember: left, right, left, right.
Obviously, some of those tips aren’t as fundamental as others. Make sure that school is a priority, but don’t forget to have a good time. School is only as dreadful as you make it. If you come to school everyday with a little bit of optimism, both the school day and school year are sure to be great not only for you, but for everyone else as well.
