Mike Arnold has had some potent offenses during his time as Hemet’s baseball coach.

But what his team is doing this year is unlike anything Arnold has ever had before.

“I’ve never had a team as explosive as this,” he said. “It’s been a nice surprise.”

The Bulldogs are averaging 9.8 runs per game, have scored 20 runs in a game twice and at least 10 runs six times in their first 12 games. They entered the week with an 11-2 record and were ranked fourth in CIF-SS Division 5.

“It’s just from all of the extra hacks we’ve taken in batting practice,” cleanup hitter Cody White said. “When we’re in BP, we’re getting the best out of it that we can, and it’s paying off big time. We spent numerous hours in the cages, just hours and hours as a group.”

Hemet’s production on offense hasn’t been powered by just a few guys. Both White and Arnold spoke about bench players stepping up consistently throughout the year.

“That’s the thing, our lineup has been mixed and matched,” Arnold said. “We’ve had guys out and guys are just picking each other up, doing a great job and everybody seems to step up. It’s been different guys in every game.”
