The 16 year old was asked to be a contestant in the 2012 Miss Teen San Bernardino pageant and jumped at the opportunity.

“I am so excited to do something different,” Kirsten said. “I am excited to dress up in formal wear and to be judged on my personality.”

Kirsten was one of 120 young women selected from over 300 applicants in the competition that judges the girls on her casual wear, formal wear, and personality and interviewing skills.

“I like to think I am good with people and good at communicating with people,” Kirsten said. “I think my background in performing gives me an advantage. When I interviewed with the judges to get picked, they said personality is huge. It is all about how you make the crowd feel. You have to be likable.”

To prepare for her pageant debut, Kirsten is practicing with her pageant savvy cousin and working on how she will present herself.

Aside from preparing for pageants, Kirsten keeps her grade point average above a 3.0. The high GPA was a requirement to be chosen for the competition.

“Academics are so important to me. You have to be educated to make it in any industry,” Kirsten said. “History is definitely my favorite subject. It is interesting to see how we have progressed over time.”

Kirsten also involves herself in modeling, but really wants to focus herself on performing arts.

“I live to sing, dance, and act. I started theater as a freshman and it just swept me away,” she said. “My passion is in acting and photography.”

Kirsten earned the lead role in Hemet High’s production of “Check Please!” and considers herself obsessed with theater.

“I hope to go to college in London and study theater and photography,” Kirsten said. “I want to study other cultures, but more than anything I want to be an actress.”

As for her future in pageants? “I think it would be a really fun thing to get involved with. It is great to try different things and find different outlets,” Kirsten said. “I will definitely look into doing Miss Teen Hemet next year.”

If Kirsten were to win the Miss Teen San Bernardino title, she would represent the county in the national competition which will be held in Orlando, Florida. There are over $30,000 worth of prizes and awards in the national competition and all competitors will receive an expense paid trip to Florida for the event.

While Kirsten does not have to pay, she is looking for sponsors from locals. Community businesses, organizations, and private individuals are welcome to sponsor her. Through that sponsorship, each competitor receives training, rehearsals, and the financial support necessary to be prepared.

Kirsten’s sponsors thus far include Wildfire Mercantile, Curtis Dump Truck and Backhoe Service Inc., Mon Ami Nails and Spa, PAMA management, and Juan Pollo.
