HUSD School Board seeks waivers from state

One hearing involved increasing class sizes above the state standard. This is the third consecutive year the district has sought the waiver.

The board also will seek a waiver to not offer transitional kindergarten next school year. Transitional kindergarten, whose funds were cut by the governor’s recent budget proposal, is intended for children who won’t quite be old enough to enroll in regular kindergarten as the state rolls back the cutoff date.

Board member Charlotte Jones said the waivers were not something the district wanted to do, but had to do because of the financial situation the state finds itself in.
