High School 101

Preparing Our Bulldogs for Success

High School 101 was conceived by high school principals and designed by experienced teachers and counselors to help 9th graders to be successful in high school!

High School 101 has been created to equip freshmen with the test-taking, communication, planning, health and social skills that research has demonstrated lead to a successful adaptation to high school. High school freshmen transition programs like High School 101 that address a wide range of concerns for students in their first year of high school have also contributed to reduce academic failure, close the achievement gap, decrease disciplinary incidents and drug, alcohol and tobacco use.

This year-long class will prepare students to successfully transition into high school and encounter opportunities to develop academically and socially. They will experience AVID strategies, different writing genres, research projects, presentation opportunities and Cornell note taking.  Students will prepare for CAHSEE and learn about time management, goal setting, developing portfolios, organizational skills, test-taking skills, and the 40 Developmental Assets.  The course will provide opportunities to develop individual learning plans and the intrinsic motivation necessary to succeed.  Students will explore issues in health, social and emotional growth and development and experience community service, mentoring and tutoring opportunities both in and out of school.  The class will also support all core subjects.
