Hemet falls to Shadow Hills

The Hemet Bulldogs traveled out to the desert Friday night and took on the Knights of Shadow Hills.

In the first half, the Knights got rolling as they connected on many pass plays, a few of them over 15 yards. Shadow Hills scored on their first drive and made another long drive to pay dirt but missed the extra point. Near the end of the half, Hemet was pressing but a pass went over the head of our receiver and was intercepted and ran back for a touchdown. The Knights entered the half time period with a 20-0 lead.

As they say in football, it’s a game of halves. The second half belonged more to the Bulldogs as on the first drive, recovered a fumble and turned it into 7 points. On the next possession, Hemet forced a three and out by their defense and let the offence continue to roll as they went 50 yards for their next touchdown. From there it was a back and forth game and with about 6 minutes left in the game, the Bulldogs started to chew up yardage and march towards the goal. On a forth and one, Hemet was called for illegal motion and moved the ball back five yards. Not being able to convert stopped the drive and the opportunity to tie the game. Shadow Hills took over and on a busted play threw a 60-yard pass and went on to score the final touchdown of the game. The game ended 26-14 in favor of the Knights.

It was a game of many opportunities, official’s calls and no calls, and some errors. On one play, Hemet was again threatening from the 6 yard line when our receiver was nocked down and the pass went to the guy right behind for an interception but also a turnover that stopped another scoring opportunity. On another play, the Bulldogs made a long reception, took two steps with the ball, got it nocked out and went out of bounds. The officials called it an incomplete pass, stopping another first down opportunity.

The Bulldogs are now 2-2 on the season and have their homecoming game this Friday night against Jurupa Hills.
