Acting 1 teaches the fundamentals of acting, performance technique, and audition skills. This course includes the study of acting methods, improvisation, dramatic movement, and fundamentals of characterization. With a strong emphasis on teamwork and responsibility, the course provides students with a greater knowledge of drama and its universal appeal in order that they may better enjoy and appreciate the performing arts. It will explore stage-acting techniques through monologues and scenes. This yearlong course perfects the skills acquired and emphasizes character development and script analysis. Semester One will end with a public performance of poems, monologues and scenes that were worked on during class during the semester. The second semester will end with the production of a One Act Play. Afterschool rehearsals are required one week prior to each public performance.

Children’s Theatre class introduces the beginning student to the theatre through the production of a play or musical that is appropriate for elementary through middle school audiences. A different play/musical will be produced each semester. Each production will be casted from the class members. Backstage technical theatre positions are available for those students that do not desire to perform onstage. Most of the rehearsals and production work will occur during the regular class time. Two weeks prior to each semester’s production, mandatory after school rehearsals are scheduled.

 

THEATRE WORKSHOP #59051

This Production course class meets after school Monday through Friday from 2:30 to 5:00 pm. Each Fall semester we produce a “Broadway” musical and each Spring semester we produce a stage play. Opportunities exist for students to perform onstage as well as working backstage as a theatre technician. This class is open to students through audition/instructor’s permission only. Contact the theatre instructor regarding the auditions/technical theatre signups for each semester’s production.

 

TECHNICAL THEATRE 1 #59050

This course is designed to provide students with skills, knowledge and attitude to work backstage on theatrical productions or other live entertainment events. The students will learn to develop planning and organizational skills necessary to work behind the scenes (including set construction, theatrical lighting, stage management, and sound reinforcement). The students will learn the terminology used in the “business”. Learn reliability, responsibility, and the ability to work independently and as a team player to create “magic” on stage. This course is designed for beginning through advanced students who want hands on set construction experience. Students will design, construct, and paint sets for school productions. A basic knowledge of hand and power tools is helpful, but not necessary. This is an excellent opportunity for students with woodshop and construction experience to put their knowledge to use.

 

THEATRE MAKEUP / COSTUME 1 #59000

This one semester class maybe repeated for credit. It is designed to give the interested student a hands-on approach to learning about these crafts. The historical development of these crafts will be explored with concentration on class projects. These projects will consist of the designing and creating: Theatrical costumes and stage makeup designs. These projects will be used in the Theatre workshop productions. You will have the opportunity to work on the main stage productions, using the skills that you learn in this class.
