WOOD OUT AT WEST VALLEY

From the Press Enterprise High School Notebook

WOOD OUT AT
WEST VALLEY

Hemet West Valley football coach Gordon Wood has resigned, and the school is actively seeking a replacement, Wood confirmed this week.

Wood said he is planning to relocate to the Fresno area to be closer to his daughter, who is at Fresno
State. He said he’ll continue teaching at West Valley through the end of the school year.

Wood, 47, won a pair of CIF titles at La Mesa Helix, where he coached NFL players Reggie Bush and Alex Smith. He went 3-17 in two seasons with the Mustangs.

West Valley’s hire will make it a complete sweep of new coaches in the San Jacinto Valley. Former West Valley coach Jason Thornburg replaced Jeff Reitz at Hemet; Aric Galliano replaced Bill Powell at San Jacinto; and Damon Dustin
has replaced Dennis Gregovich at Hemet Tahquitz.
