CIF Sporting Action

Out on the pool deck, the boys water polo team got down 1-0 in the first few minutes and we began to wonder, . . . but not for long as the Bulldogs started to cruse, outscoring the Conquistadors 6-1 in the remainder of the half, taking a 6-2 commanding lead into the intermission. The second half the boys worked their offense effectively. When the Cabrillo Lompoc visitors scored, the dogs matched them. When the game was over, and a 12-5 victory in hand, the boys had a lot to celebrate and that spirit took them into the volleyball game to help cheer on the girls.

For Heme¬t, goals were scored by: Garrett Patterson had 4, Jacob Gonzalez had 3, Dakota Snow and Gabriel Lashley each had 2 and Taylor Timpson had 1. Tanner Silves had 8 saves in goal for the Bulldogs. Next up won the coin flip and will be at home this Saturday with Temescal Canyon for an 11:00 a.m. game. Overall Hemet is 17-11.
In the gym, the ladies hosted the Bell Gardens Lancers. Game time was to be at 7 p.m. but due to transportation and/or traffic conditions, they team didn’t show up until that time. Finally at 7:30, the game got underway. The Bulldogs were just crushing the ball as Malory Marcus and Jillian Nickens took turns hammering away serves set by Danielle Simmons.

After a 25-10 first game, the ladies may have had a surge of overconfidence as they began to struggle in the second set, missing a lot of their kills, and missing six serves. You can’t score if you don’t put the ball over the net and the Bulldogs dropped game two, 23-25. With the Lancers spirits building, the Dogs got back to basics and got a slim lead in game three and kept on building it for a 25-18 victory.

In game four, the Bulldogs continued to work and you could see the air leave the room for the Lancers as they saw the writing on the wall and it was over. Hemet won game four 25-18 and the match 3-1. It was a good lesson to learn this early in CIF for the girls as the competition will only get more difficult with each round.

For the Bulldogs, Malory Marcus lead the team with 24 kills, Jillian Nickens put down 16 while Labaro Hannah Cliff had 23 digs. Danielle Simmons had 44 assists for Hemet who is now 26-2 overall.

Next up for the girls is a game at Loma Linda Academy with the Roadrunners. Game time is set for 7:00 p.m. At this time, there does not seem to be a rooter bus going.

As always, whenever you can, get out and support your favorite Bulldog.
